Development of ATO as an alternative catalyst support for PEM fuel cells

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells demonstrated to be feasible energy converters that convert chemical of fuels electrical energy. The technology has proven competitive with conventional such as batteries and internal combustion engines. However; several challenges influence the commercialization this which includes high costs, durability, stability, are contributed by PEM cell catalysts. Currently, carbon-supported platinum electro-catalyst is being used. Unfortunately, carbon supports not stable enough for durability due corrosion on cathode. Therefore it necessary replace support materials improve cells. In study, antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) metal oxides synthesized alternative catalyst via co-precipitation different doping levels 5, 7, 10 %. preliminary results acid resistance test show relatively acid-resistant minor loss dopant in acidic conditions. Surface area measurements, XRD, TEM, ICP characterization will performed ATO before after addition 40 wt. % Pt particles. mass specific activity measurements oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) ex-situ thin-fil rotating disc electrode (RDE) Pt/ATO traditionally used Pt/C compared.
